The tradition of Czech glassmaking dates back to the 14th century. The first glass furnaces began to appear then, mainly in the area of northern Bohemia, which melted almost clear or greenish potassium-lime glass and made painted church windows from it. Later in the 16th century, the first glassworks was founded in Mšeno, which focused on the production of fashionable glass beads. The greatest development of glassmaking in Bohemia took place at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, when glass cutting developed to a greater extent. The first jewellery stones, beads and chandelier trimmings were also produced at that time. The glassworks are so successful that glass and jewelry products begin to be imported as far away as Philadelphia.
